Our Mission
Student Outreach to the World (SOW) is a Christian university ministry focused on discipling university students to love Jesus, serve His Church and reach His world. We are committed to offering new opportunities for students to meet others from various churches and backgrounds.
As a university ministry, we are student-run and driven. We are focused on the teaching of Reformed and Covenantal theology, mobilising students for local and global missions, and training leaders for Church. We believe that university is more than acquiring a degree or job training and so, we invite students to explore what it means to live a Christ-centred life.
Our Core Values
-
The truth of the gospel informs and drives all our activities.
-
The truth of the gospel must reach further with deeper impact.
-
The truth of the gospel must be presented with winsome clarity.
-
The truth of the gospel must reach people of all nations.
Our Beliefs
Our theological identity is constituted in our faith and teaching standards. We have made a distinction between our official standard of faith and our teaching standards so that we can welcome students from a wide range of evangelical denominations and local churches, while ensuring a high degree of quality and consistency of teaching and preaching across all campuses.
Our official faith statement is the Lausanne Covenant. The Lausanne Covenant is an evangelical summary of biblical faith, with a particular emphasis on the authority of Scripture, the centrality of Christ, and the urgency of global missions.
Our teaching standard is confessionally Reformed. The Westminster Confession of Faith is a summative expression of Presbyterian and Covenantal theology in the Reformed tradition.
Our focus for the next 5 years
With about 200,000 student enrolments across the five campuses, we would love to be able to reach more students and to sustainably grow the current members under our care. To do so, we recognise that SOW needs to plant more campus ministries and continue to grow our current campuses across Sydney. We hope to do this by providing financial support for our chaplains and having the resources and training to equip student leaders on each campus.
